Ann Kennedy

Life sometimes gives you no other option than to create. It becomes like breathing. When breathing feels impossible, create.
Born in Missoula in 1981 and raised in Billings, art has always been an important part of Ann Kennedy’s life. The vulnerable act of creating is a visual depiction of a time and place specific to her experiences. Most, if not all the paintings exhibited have two to sixty-paintings underneath what you see; A death of one to birth anew.

Kennedy graduated from Billings Senior High in 1999, and moved to Seattle where she attended Seattle University. Through SU, Kennedy studied at the University of Grenoble, Alpes, in France, where she traveled throughout Europe studying language and art. She later transferred to the University of Montana and focused her studies on Fine Arts, where she began to really experiment with color and texture, which has become an important part of her later work. In 2003, she traveled back to Europe to attend art classes in Paris and Amsterdam.
After graduating from U of M in 2003, Kennedy moved to California living in the Sierra Nevada foothills, before moving back to Billings where she resides today. She lives with her husband Jacob Ostrander, and her two children, Oliver and London.
